Urban Ag for Seniors Grant

The Urban Ag for seniors program, brings seniors of retirement homes together with livestock producers to alleviate food deserts by providing a sustainable garden within their facility.  The staff will evaluate and provide a custom garden that adequately fits within the space in the retirement home.  There are several options for irrigated garden designs such as, a garden table, raised beds, vertical beds and/or a potted garden. Each garden mindfully designed for any type of space big or small, within the retirement community.

A food desert is defined as a group of individuals that have low access to fresh produce.  The Urban Ag for Seniors program will help alleviate the food deserts within the retirement community and facilitate opportunities for communal and family activities to attain a garden to table experience.

The Grant County CD, are partnering with local dairy owners, livestock producers, community groups and cities to insure quality technical assistance, educational events and community resources needed to facilitate successful gardening within the retirement communities.
